Match Report by Allan Hefferon
With the game only a minute old Bearsted thought that they had gone in front when Fisher goalkeeper Ricky Wadman did not make the most of his time to clear the ball, before being challenged by Bradley Webb, the result of which seeing it roll into an open net before being cleared to safety? Soon after it was a Webb run and cross down the right that found Jack West to fire into the side netting at the near post. However they did go ahead after 16 minutes when Andy Foster lifted a ball over the visitor’s defence, finding Keenan Mooney to run on and score in sublime style. At this stage it was the home side looking more likely to go on and to win the game quite handsomely. However after 36 minutes a deep cross from the right to the far post was headed onto the bar by Scott Wason which came back into play and headed home from close range by Tyrell-McLoad-Bentley. With the visitors now enjoying this success, suddenly they began to create a few chances of their own, notably when Trey Williams found himself in on goal only to be denied by Bears keeper Thomas Taylor. Unfortunately for them though they were to once more go behind, when following some neat build up play, the ball found its' way into the path of Webb for him to score from close range on the stroke of half time.
Bearsted started brightly enough after the break and with the benefit of the wind in their backs all signs indicated that they were the team more likely to go on and win this game. Indeed during this early spell several good chances did arrive, notably when Jack West headed just over then when a goal-bound header from Rob Lyell hit the back of a defender’s head before going over to safety. However, as the half wore on so it seemed that the Bearsted front line were finding it more and more difficult to make the most of their chances. At the same time it was apparent that their opponents had the pace of McLeod-Bentley and Alfie Roache to hit them on the break. So much so that after such a break deep into the half, Trey Williams was on hand to level the scoring. Following this strike so Fisher now saw the prospect of winning this game a real possibility. This notion was nearly dispelled when soon after, Ashley Russell broke clear on goal only to be denied by Wadman rushing out off of his line to prevent the home side from re-establishing a lead. That achievement though was left to the visitors, who almost immediately after, Isa Hussein scored directly from a free kick from the edge of the area with 5 minutes remaining. Now stunned by the fact of now being behind, so Bearsted’s hope of a reply seemed unlikely. However with only a minute remaining, Graeme Andrews picked the ball up out on the right to send in a deep cross into his opponent’s area which found the head of Russell for him to score from close range and salvage a point which was at least some consolation.
