Match Report by Allan Hefferon

For Bearsted this was an important game whereby they could establish an improved position in the league. So much so that this result at least signalled that they were not ready to roll over. However certainly during the early stages of the game it was the visitor's with their neat interplay who were quite likely to spoil that notion. However as the game wore so Bearsted began to get more into the game and they were to go in front two minutes before the break, when Keelan Mooney sent in a cross from the left onto the head of Andy Irvine to score, rising above the challenges of a ruck of defenders. Immediately following this they very nearly added another following a run on goal by Peter Williams forced two point blank saves from goalkeeper Bobby Sturgeon followed by two headed clearances off the line by Nico James
The second half in many ways turned out to be a real game changer with the home side’s pattern of play causing concern for Erith’s back line. Indeed it took only 5 minutes into half for them to further the lead, when Mooney, once more became provider, hooking the ball over the top for Irvine to run on and send in a sublime lob over Sturgeon into the net. The Erith keeper was soon though responsible for maintaining the scoreline with a great save from a close range Williams’s header. During this period of the game the home defence experienced a fair amount of uncertainty, whilst at the other end they were restricted to limited opportunities, the best of which seeing James Packer firing over from close range. However on 55 minutes following of some tenacious work down the right by Sam Flisher, the ball was sent over by Williams for Irvine to control and complete his hat-trick from the edge of the area. Ten minutes later, this time it was Flisher who was to supply the cross for Irvine to add his fourth finding the net slightly hindered by a half save by the advancing Sturgeon. As the clock ran down and the game entering the final minutes so came an Erith reply, following a run and cross down the left by Jack Mahon found Mike McKenna lurking on the edge of the area to send his shot high into to top corner of the net. Scant consolation for the visitors whilst at the same time being of great relief for their hosts
