Match report by Allan Hefferon
With the game being played on a somewhat uneven surface, both sides were finding it difficult to put together many passing movements and each tending to resort to a more a direct approach. Certainly during the early stages Lordswood seemed to be looking the side most likely to opening the scoring, with the runs of both target man Jack Howlett and winger Danny Grant looking particularly threatening. For Bearsted at this point, the only real opportunity fell to Andy Hart, just failing to control the ball after being fed in on goal. At the other end, as a result of a long throw from the right causing some defensive confusion, the ball passed narrowly wide of the far post. However the opener did eventually arrive after 27th minutes, when this time a throw from the left found defender Jamie Blunden to head goalwards and for Shane Uings to toe the ball over the line from close range. Unfortunately for them though the home side’s lead only lasted 3 minutes, with Keelan Mooney thrashing the ball in from the edge of the area after being set up by Andy Irvine. This strike did signal a period of Bearsted pressure, during which time saw a left wing corner headed just over by Rob Lyall and Reece Collins only being denied by a great point back save by goalkeeper Shear Pritchard-Louson. However 2 minutes before the break the visitors were to go in front when a fierce low drive by Irvine, forced a smart save by the home keeper, only for the loose ball to be pounced upon by Collins to score from 5 yards.
The re-start saw the Bears remerge in positive fashion during which time Irvine headed just over and Mooney going close with a shot from outside of the area. Although with the momentum of the game now being with the visitors, they still had to be mindful of being hit on the break and it was only a fine block by Graeme Andrews that prevented Josh Wooley from levelling the score. The gap though was opened up further in the 65th minute when Hart fed the ball down the line to Same Flisher for him to set up Irvine to drive the ball home from 20 yards. Although this strike did signal a series further goal chances, the final result was sealed after 82 minutes, when a volleyed effort from 30 yards by Flisher produced a ‘Wonder goal’ much to the delight of the away visitors. With the clock now running down and the hosts continuing with their efforts to pulling something back so the Bears defence stood firm and in no mood to let this result from slipping from their grasp.
