First Team vs Beckenham Town

Match Date: 25 March 2017
Score: 2-0

This game was crucial to both sides, played throughout in difficult windy conditions. Following a lively start it was Bearsted who were to take the lead after just 11 minutes, when a concise through ball by Cameron Croucher found Lucian Scarlat to run down the left, reaching the by-line, before crossing into the path of the incoming Peter Williams to side foot the ball into the net from close range. However, although the visitors were facing into the wind, central defenders Ola Williams and Lassa Jallou were generally managing to deal with the threat of potential through balls intended for their opponent’s front men. In addition to this, they found some encouragement from their forward play, particularly from Hassan Jalloh, whose trickery caused problems throughout most of the afternoon. However although play flowed from end to end Bearsted should have extended their lead midway through the half, when Williams ran into the box before setting up Ollie Wells only for him to see his effort turned away by goalkeeper Aiden Prail.
Following the half time break and with the conditions now seemingly now likely to favour the visitors, the possibility of a reply seemed quite likely. However far too often, it was due to a combination of over hit balls and stubborn defending, which was the main reason for this not happening. Certainly the presence of Jallou and Joe N’Guessan were always a threat, in return so was the pace of WIlliams, Scarlet and Wells continually producing a dangerous replies. So much so that after 75 minutes the lead was extended, when a through ball from midfield put Constantine Scarlat in on goal, only for him to be upended by a challenge by defender Williams, for the referee to award a penalty. Following the ensuing protestations having settled down, it was left to Williams to step up to send the ball into the net via the left hand of keeper Prail. With the clock running down so the game became a somewhat tense affair, but ultimately on the day it was Bearsted who were t come out on top.
