Match Date: 04 September 2016
Bearsted U18 had an early start to make an 11am kick off away to Deal Town. The opening fixture for the new season was played at the Charles Ground Stadium on a great surface, albeit very windy.
From the start Bearsted dominated possession and settled early looking fairly comfortable. Towns keeper produced a string of fine saves, denying Ryan Golding, Luke Snazel and Tom Lindsey. It seemed patience was the key. Half time came with no score.
Bears almost took the lead in the first 10 seconds of the second half when Chae Bradbury ran onto a great pass from Bears captain, Chris Carcary, with only the keeper to beat, Bradbury shot just passed the post.
Bearsted were well on top and the break in the deadlock was well deserved. From a Golding corner Kieron Patel hit the post with a great header, the rebound from the post fell on the edge of the box to Joe Sturrock, his shot was poked in from close range by Patel.
With 20 minutes to go Town had their keeper sent off for a last player infringement.
This certainly galvanised Deal and to their credit they pushed Bearsted all the way. Without the cushion of a second goal the last quarter was tense. Bears guilty of not taking their chances. The final whistle came, an opening away win at Deal Town, with a clean sheet and a dominant performance.
