Bearsted U’18s Match ReportBearsted vs. Dover AthleticSunday 6th November 2016
Bearsted picked up their second loss of the season on Sunday following an embarrassing performance against Dover Athletic which ended with the visiting side picking up a 5-3 victory. Dover travelled to Honey Lane having lost their previous 3 games in the league which probably meant that the Bearsted boys were feeling far too confident – a poor mistake on their behalf.
Despite the end result, Bearsted started the game relatively well as they took the lead around the 10 minute-mark when Will Richards was on hand to turn in an Albert Courtnell effort that had been saved by the Dover keeper moments previous. This was the ideal start from the home team which would have given them confidence in the early stages of the game. Nevertheless, this wasn’t the case as 5 minutes later Dover managed to equalise following some terrible communication between Harry Whitfield and Callum MacGregor which resulted in the Dover striker going through on goal and taking the chance.
To further increase to Bearsted’s embarrassment, Dover added another 2 goals within the next 15 minutes. Two sloppily defended goals meant that the home side were left well and truly stunned by a fast-paced Dover side. Although Dover had played relatively well, it was Bearsted’s awful defending that had let the home side down; something that seems to be becoming more of an issue week-in-week-out.
To Bearsted’s credit they didn’t let the two-goal deficit phase them which prompted a comeback before half-time. Goals from Luke Snazel and Tom Lindsey meant that Bearsted would go in at half-time 3-3. A poor first-half display which the home side were not expecting in the slightest having gone 3 games unbeaten previous to this game. One positive to take from the first-half was the fact that Bearsted showed the fight to get back into the game.
Bearsted started the second-half in a similar fashion to the way they began the game. The attacking unit were engineering chances for themselves but these chances were being squandered by the minute. Bearsted thought they had taken the lead through Edoardo Cammarano – who, yet again was having a great game for Bearsted – as he struck home the ball on the edge of the box, only to see that the offside flag had already been raised. Swiftly after this, Bearsted had a couple of chances in the form of Luke Snazel and Callum West, frustratingly, neither took their chances.
Prior to the final whistle, Dover were able to add a 4th and a 5th which meant complete humiliation for the home side as they came out of the game with a 5-3 loss on their hands. Bearsted will look to put this result behind them as they travel to Hythe Town who they managed a 5-0 victory the last time they met.
