Match Date: 15 January 2017
Bearsted U18's had an early start for a 10.30am kick off away to Faversham Town for this quarter final Challenge Cup match. It was first v second from the South Division as the two teams kicked off on a bitterly cold and wet sunday morning. Most of the days matches had fallen foul to the weather, but the 3G pitch at Faversham meant that this game was very much on.
Bearsted dominated straight from the start and looked the much brighter of the teams. This start was rewarded with an early goal when Ryan Golding fired a free kick from a wide position, across the box, and evading everybody, the ball curled into the far corner. Bearsted maintained their dominance and had chances to double their lead with shots from Chris Carcary and several testing corners that should have been converted.
With half an hour gone Bearsted let Faversham equalise with the softest of goals. Bears defence gifting the Town striker. It wasn't long after when Town took the lead. A quick counter saw Faversham 4 v 2 and they made no mistake. Half time came and somewhat against the run of play Faversham went in 2-1 up.
Bearsted changed their set up slightly for the second half, this worked well with the side looking better balanced. Edoardo Cammarano, as he has done all season, was running the midfield and eventually Bearsted got their second goal when another Carcary shot rebounded to Will Richards, who brilliantly half volleyed into the far corner. The game seemed to reach stalemate for the last twenty minutes with neither side forging any chances of note, although Bearsted looked the stronger. After 90 minutes, and with the score at 2-2 the final whistle meant another 30 minutes of extra time.
If ever a team grabbed extra time by the scruff of the neck it was Bearsted. The Bears totally dominated both halves, Luke Snazel, who had worked tirelessly all match, produced a superb run down the left and whipped in a cross that was met by the on rushing Richards. This was repeated in the second half of extra time almost identically. The outstanding Will Richards completing his hat trick. This was a brilliant win for Bearsted, and although this was a cup match, this result put down a marker for the league fixture at this venue in two weeks time. Every Bearsted player played their part today. An outstanding squad performance which booked Bearsted's place in the Semi Finals.
