Match Date: 19 February 2017
Bearsted once again found themselves having to pick up the pieces following another loss in the league. The Bears travelled to Chatham desperate to pick up 3 points following two losses in a row courtesy of Faversham Town and Deal Town respectively.
Bearsted started the first half extremely well and applied strong pressure from the first whistle which is something that the Bears have struggled with for the most part of this season. Early passages of play were pointing towards a comfortable Bearsted win, nevertheless, this wasn’t the case. Fifteen minutes in Chatham were awarded a freekick a yard from the touchline which Chatham whipped into the Bearsted box. Unfortunately, the freekick evaded both sides and nestled in the far corner much to Bearsted’s dismay.
Bearsted knew that they could get back into the game and the boys rallied together in order to try and get an equaliser. Efforts from Callum West and Luke Snazel almost clawed the Bears back into the game. Despite Bearsted’s continued pressure the boys were unable to force a way back into the game which confirmed that the first half would end 1-0 to the home side.
Bearsted started the second half in similar fashion to the way they did in the first half. The pressure was mounting on the home side and Bearsted will rue missed opportunities from corners which time after time evaded the away side which was hugely frustrating. Albert Courtnell came extremely close to making the game all-square when his strike skimmed the Chatham crossbar. This gave Bearsted hope and they were soon rewarded for their constant pressure as West did excellently to head the ball down to the feet of Luke Snazel who made no mistake in finding the back of the net. This was important for the striker as moments before he had been denied by some great goalkeeping by the Chatham goalkeeper.
All of Bearsted’s pressure eventually counted for nothing as Chatham were able to take the lead and end Bearsted’s hopes of returning home with all three points. This now means Bearsted are three game without a win which they will have the chance to rectify on Tuesday night as they travel to Ramsgate in the cup.
