Match Report by Allan Hefferon

Both sides started brightly enough but it was Bearsted who should have gone in front after just 3 minutes when Rob Lyall, arriving at the far post, headed just wide of an inviting goal getting onto the end of a Jack Sellens cross. Immediately after this, saw Reece Collins forcing a smart save from Cray keeper Luke Colquhoun. However it was the away side that were to take the lead after 13 minutes, when Michael Hagen picked the ball up centrally on the edge of the area, to thrash the ball past a rooted Scott Andrews. The lead though was to be short lived, when 2 minutes later, Collins collected the ball on the left, before combining with Lucian Scarlet, and he was able to send the ball across Colquhoun low into the net. Play at this stage became end to end, but it was the visitors who were to once more go in front after 38 minutes, when a Bearsted long throw into the box was cleared directly up field, finding Hagen to set up Ben Francis for him to send the ball home into the net. Unfortunately for Bearsted just before half time, they were to concede another goal in similar circumstances, when once more Francis was put in by Denzal Gale to complete his second of the afternoon.
Following the break so the Cray looked to seize the initiative, seeking out the wing runs of Gale and the ever dangerous Francis up front. Indeed during this spell the score could well have been extended and it was only down to a number of lost opportunities that this did not happen. The loss also, of key defender Graeme Andrews through injury midway into the half and soon after conceding a penalty this did not make the prospects for a Bearsted comeback any more likely. However, they seemed to react well, following a great save by goalkeeper Andrews from a Francis spot kick, by launching a series of attacks, during which time they were to go close, notably when Constantine Scarlet sent the ball narrowly over the bar and then when a fierce goalbound drive by Ryan Croucher, forced s a superb save from Colquhoun tipping over his effort over to safety. Although with the clock now running down so the Bears continued to push forward but unfortunately for them their efforts did not produce the sort of threat likely to inflict damage on the visiting defenders which ultimately produced the right sort of result for them.
