In a very tight game played throughout between two ideally matched sides, certainly gave good value for the supporter. As for the result? Both sides might have settled for a draw, but leaving the visitors feeling somewhat aggrieved after conceding a goal with almost the last kick of the game which had somehow strayed almost 5 minutes into time overtime. Certainly from the start the pace and quality of the game could not be denied and after 2 minutes Corithian might well have gone in front and it was as a result of a wonder save by Scott Andrews from a close from Marcus Heddon after getting onto the end of a Bradley Large cross. However almost immediately after, it was home keeper Aiden Prall who was to deny Reece Collins scoring from close range getting onto the end of a Matt Garner deep ball from the right. Following this particularly attack, Bearsted thought that they might have gone in front when Constantine Scarlet headed home, only to be denied by a linesman’s flag. With the home side adopting a more close passing approach, which at times did create several chances, the away defence, gradually became accustom to and more capable, as a platform for mounting attacks of their own. Certainly as the game wore on so they were to become more dominant and at the half time break the game was still delicately balanced.
Following the re-start so the pattern of play tended to mirror the first half with Corithian from the start tending to create a series of good chances, notably for Oscar Housego and Michael Hurcombe. Indeed a good example coming when, following an awarded free kick on the edge of the area, Housega saw his goalbound effort being saved once more by Andrews, diving low to his left to turn the ball away. However as the half wore on so Bearsted began to mount several dangerous attacks and now looking more likely to go on and win the game. Indeed that looked highly likely when a clever, threaded pass by Charlie Epps, sent Collins in a race for the ball with the advancing Prall, for him to round the keeper before sending the ball wide of an inviting empty net from the tightest of angles. This somehow spurred on the visitors in producing a series of real goal chances, notably when Sam Flisher fired over and Rob Lyall first headed over from close range and then with minutes remaining saw his shot turned around by Prall. Unfortunately for them though, as the clock ran well into ‘Time added on’ they were to fall victim to a right wing corner which was converted by substitute Connor Johnson lurking at the far post to head in from close range.
