First Team vs Rochester Utd

Match Date: 06 September 2017
Score: 3-1

This match brought together two teams both finding themselves at the wrong end of the table the result of which producing a closely contested game played in the right spirit throughout. However it was Bearsted who had to thank their keeper Scott Andrews for producing a fine save after just 3 minutes from Sean Hetterley after being set up by a headed knock-down from fellow front man Tim Beckford. Soon after Andrews was once more asked to be at his best turning over a close range header from Beckford and equally a well timed interception by Rob Lyall prevented the lively Hetterley from opening the scoring. However as the visitors began to settle into a passing game and producing a series of chances of their own, notably when Reece Collins fired narrowly wide and then following a goalmouth scramble saw his shot scrambled off of the line by defender Adam Saunders. Collins though finally got his reward after 39 minutes, following some neat link-up play from Cameron Croucher and Ignicio Garcia Fernandez, the ball was crossed into the box finding Constantine Scarlat for him to force a save from Tony Coxhall only for the ball to go back into the path of Collins to send the ball back into the net.

Following the half time break Bearsted re-emerged with a rearranged backline after the loss of their influential skipper Rob Lyall through injury. Fortunately for them though they were able to maintain their shape and generally cope with what was thrown at them by their opponents. Although the flow of the game remained pretty well the same, the home side at times, were to go close and on one occasion hearts went into the mouths of the visiting supporters when Andrews, sprinting off of his line was forced into a coming together with incoming forward Jonathan Rogers to save the day. However the score was further increased after 73 minutes when Peter Williams managed to chase the ball down before providing the pass for Scarlat to drive the ball home into the net. However the Spartans after this blow still pushed forward in pursuit of a reply and were rewarded after 80 minutes when Rogers exploited a gap to run in on goal to thrash the ball home high into the net. Unfortunately for them though this situation was to last just 2 minutes, when a precise ball sent down the line by Ryan Goodling was picked up by Josh White to send over a cross finding Williams, for him, once more to be the provider, rolling his pass for Ryan Croucher to steer the ball past the diving Vauxhall and ultimately win the game.
