First Team vs Hollands & Blair

Match Date: 18 November 2017
Score: 2-1

In a game that was to be a close affair throughout it was Blair who started more brightly during which time they might have gone in front. However that privilege was to fall to the hosts after 6 minutes ,when a superb cross ball from Ryan Croucher found Reece Collins wide on the right for him to send in a dangerous cross, that although goalkeeper Tommy Taylor parried the ball out it fell to Constantine Scarlat to send it home at the second attempt. The response to this was almost immediate, when following some neat link up play between Ethan Stewart and James McDonaild; the ball found Ed Morant to send his shot narrowly wide of the post and very soon after it was McDonald who was to waste a great opportunity by sending the ball over the bar from close range. Bearsted by the same token were at times giving the ball away and not being able to capitalise on potential opportunities to build their attacks. However just before the half time break the score was nearly extended when following a combination of passes between Cameron Croucher and Lucian Scarlat the ball found Jack Sellers to send his shot past the post from 10 yards.

Following the re-start the hosts were to return in a positive fashion and during the opening minutes they should have scored, firstly when Ryan Croucher broke through the visitor's defence to be halted by a timely tackle by Steve Dampier and then when Sellens was to be denied a smart save by Taylor. However for much of the half the momentum of play was end to end, with chances falling to both teams. Notably when both Blair front men were denied by either home goalkeeper Scott Andrews saves or great close range interceptions. Contrary to this at the other end, the wing raids of Collins and Scarlat always presented problems for their opponents. However they were eventually able to get their reward after 78 minutes, when a Scarlat dribble into the box was to cause problems which ultimately allowed Collins to score from close range. With the game now seemingly almost won this piece of action was not to be the last, as the visitors did get the ball into the net, but this strike was to be over-ruled by a lineman’s flag for shirt tugging. Their disappointment though was not to last long, when following an interception from a throw- in, the ball was picked up by Harvey Killick to square a cross onto the foot of Morant to score at the near post to set up an anxious period for Bearsted, but eventually they were able to bring to an end a run of recent disappointing results.
