First Team vs Erith Town

Match Date: 02 December 2017
Score: 3-4

The curtain raiser to a first half packed with goals came after just 7 minutes when Bearsted opened the scoring, when a through ball by Ryan Croucher, found Lucian Scarlat for him to force a save by Molloy only to see the ball loop up for Contantine Scarlat to force the ball over the line. Unfortunately for them though their lead lasted only 5 minutes when a misplaced pass in midfield was incepted for the ball to be sent wide out on the left for Sidney Warden to run on and score low into the far corner of the net. Suddenly this perked up Erith and soon after in a very similar way, the ball found Adam Ramadan for him to set up Andres Tobon to increase the score. In addition to this came yet another, when the trickery of Warden took him through, to be firstly denied by goalkeeper Scott Andrews before sending the rebound into a gapping net to signal a potential rout? Fortunately for them though the visitors were about to gradually settle and get back into a playing pattern suitable for their needs and were rewarded after 21 minutes when a strong Croucher run took him through the home defence to fire past a rooted Mollay. With the game now swinging in their way so the Bears were able to grab an equaliser after 34 minutes, when a run and cross from the left by Reece Collins found the head of Sam Flisher for his effort to be blocked and for the ball to fall to Scarlat to add his second of the afternoon. However in addition to this, Bearsted had to thank their keeper Andrews for producing a great save from a Dan Palfry free kick on the stroke of half time and for both teams with still all to play for.
The second half though saw the visitors reappearing in a more positive mood seeing them come close to scoring on numerous occasions and being able to cope with their opponents, whose play had become very flat in their efforts to get something out of the game. This pattern was indeed to continue to prevail throughout much of the half and as the clock ran down so an away win looked more likely? However this was not to be when after 89 minutes and following a questionable free kick being awarded out on the left, the ball was swung in for defender Jim Day to score with the faintest of headers to ultimately win the game leaving Bearsted empty handed and thinking only of what might have been?
