First Team vs Deal Town

Match Date: 30 December 2017
Score: 0-1

Bearsted may look at this game and wonder why they never came out of this game having lost all three points even though they never really matched the performances of last week. Unfortunately for them though, after just 6 minutes they were to go behind when following a misplaced back pass the ball was sent out to Jack Paxman on the right to send in a cross that was not dealt with well enough, which in turn allowed the ball to find Connor Coyne for him to send the ball home from 12 yards. Although both teams were not able to produce real vintage football notable chances were few, with the exception being when Sam Wilson found himself in on goal on two occasions in quick succession, firstly when being denied by a smart Scott Andrews save and then when brother Graeme produced an equally important interception. As for the home side, although they were far too often guilty of misplacing their passes, they still had their moments, one of which being when a Lucian Scarlat run towards goal was brought to an end by a somewhat clumsy challenge. However they really thought their number had come up when a right wing corner created defensive confusion, during which time saw the ball cleared off of the line by Liam Hark and then when a strong appeal for handball was turned was turned down by the referee, an act of which was to be repeated not long after when an appeal was similarly dismissed for a trip on Reece Collins.

The second half was to provide much of the same, but with the hosts now becoming more dominant and looking quite likely of producing an equaliser on several occasions and coming close to achieving this, when goalkeeper James Tonkin came out to save at the feet of an incoming Andy Hart as well as being denied by some stubborn, but effective defending, but never more closer than when the ball fell to Matt Garner for him to loop the ball forwards the top corner only for it to come off of the bar to fall to safety. In reply though, almost immediately after, it was Wilson who was to repeat this act but this time for him to direct a header onto the bar. As the game though was entering the later stages, came an element of high drama, when Collins was tripped on two occasions and suffered for his own honesty, a crime of which being rewarded by an official not seemingly willing to award a penalty. However with the ball now switched to the other end so this did prove to be wrong, when he finally awarded a spot kick, the result of which seeing Andrews saving from Wilson and a least prevent what some might feel would have been a real travesty.
