By Allan Hefferon

As has been the case so often in recent weeks, Bearsted did not get the just result worthy of their performances, but on this occasion did have the welcome consolation of earning draw. In a game governed by a strong wind and a difficult playing surface due to the bitter weather conditions, so both sides found it difficult to produce the sort of quality play that they might have liked. Curiously enough though, the home side with the wind in their backs were not able to exploit this advantage and although at times they did to go close, notably when Andy Miller forced a smart save by Scott Andrews and saw Connor Coyne send his a shot narrowly wide. Bearsted though were continually able to match their opponents with a combination of some committed defending and positive build up play. However they were to suffer a set back after 25 minutes, when a Coyne effort from the edge of the area, took a serious deflection off of the head of a defender, wrong footing Andrews and for the ball to fly up into the net. The visitors response was positive and on several occasions they should have produced an equaliser, most notably when Constantine Scarlat did not make the most of a great opportunity, heading over from close range after getting onto the end of a pin-point cross by Cameron Croucher from the left.
Following the restart, the visitors now being assisted by the wind, were able to seize the initiative and were soon level, when following some neat build up play, Ryan Croucher put in Lucian Scarlet for him to run on and toe the ball past advancing goalkeeper James Tomkin. This strike did then signal a period of dominance during which time they should have gone ahead, first when a Reece Collins goal bound shot was headed off of the line and then when a ‘mazy’ run by Scarlat, allowed him to set up his brother to blaze the ball over the bar. Deal though were still were able to remain a threat as the clock ran down with chances of their own and could well have wrapped the game up, particularly when missing a glorious chance just prior to the final whistle.
