First Team vs Beckenham Town

Match Date: 14 April 2018
Score: 2-3

Unfortunately this match was ultimately allowed to develop into total farce, one of which included some curious officialdom, not helped either by the intimidating behaviour and antics worthy an Old Vic performance. As for the game itself it took Bearsted only 3 minutes to go in from when Reece Collins latching onto a gifted poor back pass to steer the ball pass advancing keeper Tyler McCarthy This goal did signal then a surge in play by the visitors, during time helped by a defence finding things extremely hard going and, Constantine Scarlat was only just denied by the heroics of keeper McCarthy and seeing a Rob Lyall header going narrowly over. As the half wore on though, so Beckenham opportunities fell to Richard Atkins and Billy Bennett. However the equaliser came after 30 minutes when a deep free kick was cleared only to find Junior Kaffo to send the ball back high into the net.

After the break so play flowed from end to end but Bearsted had to thank their goalkeeper Scott Andrews for a point blank intervention in denying Harry Ottaway from getting onto the end a low cross from the left. However after 54 minutes a run on goal by Atkins was brought to an end by a tackle for the first of two very contentious penalty decisions which were both gratefully dispatched into the net by that same player. Although Bearsted had to be mindful of the runs on the break they managed to cope, gradually beginning to dominate control and on several occasions were able to cause great concern for the home defence which helped by a combination of desperate defending and the efforts of their goalkeeper they manage to maintain their lead. However the third goal came on 90 minutes when the visitors were punished by a very similar beak, resultant decision and the same end product. With the clock now running well over, due to a whole sequence of theatrics and time wasting the game was seemingly over? However Bearsted’s frustrations were somewhat eased when Collins added his second and immediately after just before the final whistle rounded McCarthy to very nearly salvaged a point, but unfortunately for him sending the ball wide of the mark, but although this was a disappointment maybe some consolation might come for them that based upon this game certainly it certainly dispelled the old saying that ‘Tables never lie’
