Match Date: 21 April 2018
Score: 3-0

By Allan Hefferon

On the day full credit must be given to the performance of a young spirited Erith team pitched against a slightly more experienced Bearsted side. Indeed they very nearly took the lead after just 3 minutes when following a misplaced pass, the ball was threaded through to Harrison Hume for him to make room to send in a great shot that thundered off of the cross bar. However as the game wore on so the home side began to make more impact and on several occasions their build up play created some good scoring opportunities, notably when Reece Collins was denied by an improvised save by goalkeeper Adam Molloy and soon after, when the same player managed to send his effort over the bar from 5 yards. The eventual breakthrough came after 22 minutes when a run into the box by David Baranowski was brought to an end by a James Day tackle to concede a penalty from which Collins made no mistake in converting from the spot. With play now becoming more one way so came further chances, but it was not until the 35th minute that the score was to be increased when Baranowski crossed onto the head of Collins to set up Constantine Scarlat to nod the ball home crime close range. As half time loomed so the visitors response was a positive one and had it not been for a Cameron Croucher goal line clearance from Ollie Milton the score might well have been reduced. Unfortunately for them though, following a certain amount of pestilence they were to be reduced to 10 men the task ahead now appeared quite daunting.

After the break any hopes of a rout by home supporters was to became a bit of a dream as their side were to be forced onto the back foot and being guilty far too often of creating their own problems and buoyed by the wing trickery of Andres Toban and Steadman Callender, the potential was always there for a tense run in. However following a tactical alteration, so Bearsted managed to restore some dominance and the after 70 minutes they were able to make things safe when Baranowski was once more able to provide the cross which enabled Scarlat to run in and lob the ball over an exposed Molloy. Further chances soon followed seeing both Peter Williams and Sam Flisher firing narrowly clear of the mark. However in conclusion Bearsted could take great comfort by avenging a disappointed loss earlier in the season when being beaten in the final minute of that game.
