First Team vs Punjab Utd

Match Date: 07 August 2018
Score: 1-3

For Bearsted this result proved to be a most disappointing one following on from a very good performance just 2 days earlier. Indeed it took them 5 minutes to take the lead when a ball from midfield was seized upon by Reece Collins to set up Lucian Scarlat to tuck the ball past goalkeeper Lee Kidman and into the net. However Punjab gradually took up the challenge and after 15 minutes was lever when Arun Suman picking up the ball just outside of the area to send the ball home high into the net. Now with them adapting better to a very difficult tight, uneven pitch, they were able to take the lead after 24 minutes when a right wing corner was headed back by across goal by William Johnson-Cole for Camen Bhandal to score from close range. At this stage the loss of skipper Rob Lyall with injury was also a great blow one of which added to the visitor’s woes and ultimate prospects.

Following the half time break and with the home side now enjoying the benefit of the slope so they were able to exploit the pace of their wing men which continued that throughout this latter period. By the same token Bearsted did have their moments, notably when both Matt Garner and Constantine Scarlat just failed with close range opportunities. Unfortunately for them though they were to go further behind half when a move from deep found Johnson-Cole to run on and pretty well seal the game. With time now running out the score should have been increased on two occasions and only as a result of great saves by Kit Kidman was his side able to maintain their efforts of trying to get a favourable ending.
