Erith Town 3 Vs Bearsted 1
After last week’s great result in the FA cup this game was a particularly disappointing performance from Bearsted.Admittedly as being hampered by enforced changes, in reality on the day they were not to be the better side. Indeed although battling well, they had to thank their goalkeeper Scott Andrews for keeping them in the game as long as he could and in particular saving a well struck penalty by Adrian Stone and then when turning over a close range effort from Alex Nelson. However at the other end saw shots from Matt Garner and Peter Williams both going narrowly wide. Soon that it was the visitors who after 18 minutes took the lead when Ryan Croucher won the ball on the edge of the area to run through and send the ball into net. Erith though did respond in a positive fashion and going close as a result of a series of in swinging corners.
Following the break it took only 8 minutes for an equaliser, when a deep cross from the left was allowed to find the head of Aeron Jeffrey to head home from close range. Although the game then remained tight it was the hosts who began to look more controlled and as a result, after 67 minutes saw another penalty kick which, this time Stone made no mistake from the spot. Three minutes later it was pretty well game over, when following a defensive misplaced pass, the ball was picked up by Jeffrey to run across and fire past an exposed Andrews. Although late substitutions were made this did somewhat inspire a late rally from Bearsted but in truth by this time it was somewhat of a lost cause
