First Team vs K Sports

Match Date: 27 August 2018
Score: 4-2

After the disappointing result suffered just 2 days earlier, this Bearsted win against their local rivals was more than ample consolation and hopefully a springboard for an ascendency up the league as the season wears on. In a game of contrasting styles so the expectation was one of a closely contested affair for both sets of supporters. However almost immediately after the start it was the visitors who came closest to opening the scoring when a long cross by Jack West from the right found the head of Kerran Boylan to send his effort onto the top of the crossbar. Following this early scare so Bearsted began to settle into a pattern of play, which at times saw them making inroads into their visitors defences, a perfect example being when a ball through the middles put Pet Williams clear on goal for his preference to pass the ball to fellow striker Reece Collins, instead of scoring himself the outcome seeing the goal being given offside. Moments later came a similar move this time giving Collins the opportunity to score, running on to thrash the ball against the bar instead of finding the back of the net. Throughout this period though, K Sport’s more direct approach did at times remain a threat and on one such occasion, when a strike on goal by James Alderman, resulted in the corner from which they were to take the lead, after finding the head of Jason Perry to score from close range after 35 minutes. Coming as somewhat of a surprise the home side now had a real reason to try and make the most of their chances, but unfortunately for them the situation got worse a minute before half time, when following a chaotic misjudgement Andy Foster put the ball past home keeper Kit Warner
Things though might have got even worse immediately after the re-start when Boylan got clear to run on and send his shot over the bar. However the hosts were able to settle and once more begin to impose themselves on their opponents and after 55 minutes came the breakthrough when a fiercely driven corner from Ryan Croucher was volleyed home by Sam Flisher arriving at the far post. This strike turned out to be the turning point of this game as 3 minutes later came the equaliser, when Peter Williams headed the ball home after resisting the challenge of goalkeeper Adam Highsted. With the game now swinging over to the home side, so the movement of David Baranowski became most influential and following some delightful link up play with Sam Flisher, he was able to run on and plant the ball past keeper Highsted with 64 minutes gone. With their noses now in front so Bearsted took more control and after 77 minutes Baranowski added his second of the evening, chesting down a cross from the right to score from 10 yards to effectively win a game that did not seem possible 45 minutes earlier.
