First Team vs K Sports

Match Date: 29 December 2018
Score: 1-2

Bearsted have only themselves to blame for not coming away with a substantial victory. From the start and throughout the most of the first half saw a marked contrast in of styles with the visitor's passing ethic being pitched against their opponents more long ball approach, which did on a few occasions give some cause for concern, notably when Scott Andrews denied Regan Corke and then when an effort was headed over by Matt Getting. However as the half wore on so the momentum of play was to favour the Bears with the trickery of both James Bess-Saldanha and Lucian Scarlat running the host's defence raged at times. Unfortunately for them though time after time they were to go agonisingly close to scoring with shots being either blocked or flying off a charmed life goal. However as the half time break loomed and following the breakdown of another attack, the ball was sent upfield, finding Sam Stace to make his way into the box before going to ground in a somewhat theatrical way and as a result seeing a penalty to be awarded and for Jason Perry to score from the spot.

Following the restart so this goal became a game changer and although Bearsted continued to build up play in search of an equaliser, they had now to be mindful of being caught on the break and although further chances were to occur so the game became a closer affair during which time saw David Baranowski go close and at the other end James Alderman shooting just wide. As the half moved on so play became a bit more open and after 66 minutes K Sports were to increase their lead when the ball broke upfield to wingman Corke to run on to the bye-line to cross into the path of the oncoming Alderman to put the ball in from close range to seemingly put the game beyond all doubt. This notion though was not to be sustained as 15 minutes from time, a Graeme Andrews ball over the top eluded the home backline and for Constantine Scarlat to score past the advancing goalkeeper Adam Highsted Into the net to set up a grandstand finish. This indeed prove to be the case and it was only for Highsted being able to claw a Scarlat header onto the bar that prevented Bearsted from pulling some reward out the bag and proving the old saying that it is goals that win games and not missed chances.
