First Team vs Rusthall FC

Match Date: 23 March 2019
Score: 1-1

This was a game of huge importance to the hosts in their battle for survival in the SCEFL Premier Division.
It was the visitors though who settled quickest, moving the ball about with some slick passing and getting forward at every attempt against a nervy home side. The Bears were dominating creating
Chance after chance with Collins, Williams and Baranowski unable to finish off half a dozen very good chances. The hosts though, on their first eventual forage forward (25mins) were unlucky not to take the lead when Bears keeper Scott Andrews showed wonderful reflexes to tip the ball over the bar from a 10 yd. pile-driver. The Bears continued their dominance and on 31 mins right back Sam Flisher went on a surging run which took him into the box where he showed his team mates how to score with a fine right foot drive. 0 - 1
As the half time whistle blew even the home supporters were wondering how the visitors weren’t
far further in the lead.
The second half started and it was pretty obvious that stern words were probably used in the home side’s half time chat. Rusthall did try to raise their tempo but alas their continual use of long and direct tactics didn’t really create many chances. They did receive a life line though on 51min
After being awarded a free kick outside the box Robbie Bissets effort took a deflection and found its way into the back of the net. 1 -1.
The second half became something of a stalemate with both sides struggling to produce much quality, the Bears for the second game running lost their momentum in the second period with sloppy passing, conceding possession poor final balls, albeit there can be no questioning their effort to getting it down and playing The Bears way.
It must be pointed out, Rusthall will feel disappointed that on 80 mins a speculative long range shot came back off the upright.
All in all I think a draw was probably about right, with lots questions about what might have been.
