First Team vs Beckenham Town

Match Date: 06 April 2019
Score: 1-1

This was the third encounter between these two sides this season and again the Bears' matched early season title favourites Beckenham Town, putting in another fine performance.
The home side struggled to settle and on 6 mins a fine passage of play ended up with Sam Flisher having the first Bears shot on target comfortably saved by the Becks keeper. At this stage and for the first 20 mins the Bears totally dominated David Baranowski having a fine effort tipped onto the bar, and then the busy Becks' keeper had to be at his best to thwart a great run into the box by
George Sheminant for the Bears'.
Mid way through the first half the home side started to settle and on 23 mins Bears; keeper Ethan Collen was called on to make a fine save from a Becks' corner and 2 mins later he palmed another great save up in to the air where Bears'Rob Lyall did well to head the ball off the goal line.
We now had a game on our hands. It was now the home sides turn to enjoy some dominance and but for some great defending by the Bears; rear guard plus another two fine Collen saves, not to mention the Becks' missing an open goal, it remained 0-0. Beckenham had Stefan Cox sent off towards the end of the first half for an off the ball incident. Half time 0-0.
As so often happens 10 men can be harder to beat than 11, and the Bears' were unable to capitalise on this situation. The second half was much more even, to their credit both sides were playing some good football, but it has to be said also guilty of poor final ball and finishing, at both ends.
The game looked to be heading for a 0-0 draw, but with Bears' looking for the winner and pretty much every one up field, the attack broke down, and a long Becks clearance was received by
Richard Atkins who went on to fire home from the edge of the box . 90 mins 1-0.
Not for the first time this season the Bears' kept going and were justly rewarded when Peter Williams in a crowded Becks' penalty area managed to fire home the equalizer 95 mins 1-1.
In conclusion an entertaining game between two good sides which could easily have ended up 4-4
