First Team vs Chatham Town

Match Date: 22 April 2019
Score: 0-1

These two sides met twice earlier in the season, both games (cup and league) were played at Chatham's Maidstone Road ground and on both occasions the Bears' were well beaten.

Today once again the home side started well with Rob Lyall pushed forward from his usual defensive role (due to injury problems).
The Bears' were their usual fleet footed selves, but it was obvious from the off they would have to work hard to get anything out of a resolute visiting defence, having said that after a few forages forward from the home side
Rob Lyall on 16 mins out jumped the Chats' defenders to connect with a great cross, sadly his header cannoned back from the bar and the ball was hacked away to safety.

As the half wore on it was evident both sides were up for a scrap, although the Bears' were more settled and the Chats' weren't making any inroads against a stubborn home defence.
Not many chances were being made at either end and when they were both sides were guilty of shooting from distance off target, although Peter Williams got into the box forcing chats' keeper to pull off a smart save. 40 mins. HT 0-0.
The second half became far more even probably because the visitors had been giving a stern telling off at half time, The game now became more feisty with both sides digging in not wanting to give anything away, and they didn't and as the half wore on there no great chances being created and it seemed to everyone in the ground as if the game looked like it would end in a draw., but there was to be a twist on 81 mins the Chats' made a break down the right wing a cross was played in resulting with the ball bouncing off the upright s straight into the path of SCEFL leading scorer Paul Vines to put the visitors 1 - 0 up.
Despite having a few more forays forward the Bears' were unable to create an equaliser. 0-1 FT

A good performance today the Bears' put on a good show against a strong although under par Chatham side, there relief was summed up by the wails and screams of the very vocal Chats goal keeper Dan Ellis.

A draw was the least the home side deserved, hard luck lads!
