Second X1 vs New Romney Res

Match Date: 06 October 2018
Score: 2-0

Today we travelled down to the coast to play New Romney in the Les Leckie cup on a very good grass surface. We were to go 1-0 up after only 5 minutes when, man of the match , Kaiyo Peeke, raced through and calmly placed the ball into the left hand corner of the goal, after some good work from Septembers player of the month, Charlie Busby. After that we created chance after chance, Jack Sellens hitting the post was the closest to making the score a better reflection of our overall play. Kaiyo had several chances to capitalise on our best 45 minutes of the season so far, but we just couldn’t find the killer touch . Kenny Ogbuagu was in good form on the right wing and caused New Romney all sorts of problems with his trickery and pace. Half time came and although it was a really good half of good possession for us, we still were only the one goal ahead. Second half came and we seemed to start where we left off, constantly attacking and looking dangerous on every attack. But our second and final goal came from a penalty, Charlie Busby, for the second week running, danced pass three players only to be upended in the box, he fell awkwardly and ended up coming off, later we found out he has fractured his collar bone. We all wish Charlie a speedy recovery, and he will be sorely missed. Up stepped Chris Carcary to slot home the penalty to take his season to 4 goals. At 2-0 we were trying to play our football and continue to attack and whilst the opposition had spells where they looked dangerous, our defence of , Sam Capper, Maxwell Smith, Bart Baronawski and Hayden Deighton were absolutely resolute. On several occasions keeper Ben Cornelius was called into action and we’ve started to expect him to pull off several world class saves on a regular basis, and he does so with aplomb. All in all a good performance and we go through to the next round.
