First Team vs Sittingbourne FC

Match Date: 25 August 2018
Score: 0-2

This game certainly did not produce the sort of result that might have been predicted; indeed it was quite the opposite with Bearsted more than matching the strength of their opponents and feeling rather disappointed as to the impact of some officialdom that may have denied them greater success. Having said that the game was well contested throughout and remained affair throughout and as it wore on so the visitors began to create more of the chances, notably when David Baranowski found himself in the clear and for his effort to pass narrowly wide and then immediately after saw Peter Williams experience a similar fate. At the other end so chances also occurred and it took a great save by Scott Andrews from denying Bola Dawodu an opening goal. This though did arrive after 23 minutes, when a ball from deep, caught the Bears back line on the back foot, for Ira Jackson to run on and score. However very soon after came a real moment of controversy when a 30 yard run by Cameron Croucher took him into the penalty area only for him to be tripped only for him to see the referee award a free kick instead of a penalty, a decision that most players and supporters could only find remarkable one? As the game the game wore on so other chances did arrive, when Williams once more was denied and then when Jezz Hammond headed over a right wing corner. Sittingbourne though should have increased just before half time when Jackson broke clear on goal only to see his effort fly high over the bar.

Following the half time resumption, so the game flowed from end to end, but as the action wore on so there was a sense of a momentum change that saw the home side making more of an impact on the visitor’s defence? However, the visitors did remain resolute and still very much in the game. Unfortunately for them though, the real defining moment came after 87 minutes when they once more suffered a shattering experience, when a ball from deep found Jackson, seemingly several yards offside, for him to run on chased by some astonished back peddling defenders and eventually for him to score what turned out to be the winner on the day.
