Second X1 vs Snodland Reserves

Match Date: 27 October 2018
Score: 0-0

This week we made the short journey for what seemed to be like a local derby and visited Snodland, although there were no goals to speak about this week as we contested a stalemate 0-0 draw it was not for the want of trying, the effort from Bearsted second XI this week undoubtedly warranted the 3 points. Some would say that this was as much one sided as you could get. Experimentally we went with a change of formation and entered the game playing a 442 in the hunt for some more goals and positive play. Early on it was clear to see that our 2 wide men Kenny & Roan had the beating of their respective full backs both creating openings and both being brought to ground for free kicks regularly as the Snodland back line continued to soak to the ever increasing pressure being forced onto them. Kenny coming close after being put in by a fine long range pass from Chris Carcary and Kaiyo Peake unlucky to only hit the post with a quality side footed shot from just inside the area were probably our clearest chances and on another day we would and should have found ourselves at least 2 goals to the good which probably would have meant game being over considering our dominance. Several other chances came our way within the first half, Ellis Chidley see his free kick from just outside of the area narrowly going over with the keeper seemingly beaten, Jack Sellins finding some space within the area forcing the keeper to make a save with his feet from close range but still no break through. The 2nd half was much the same in many ways after reverting to the more accustomed formation of 4-1-4-1 we again piled on the pressure, but still Snodland's back 4 stood firm being more than prepared to soak up the pressure and trying to hit on the break, although chances were a little more scarce in the 2nd half there were still plenty there to wrap up this game, the improving Aye had 2 shots from just out side of the area bringing the same result, a save from the keeper. Kaiyo Peake beating his man on the left with ease but unable to hit the target from the edge of the box, Ellis Chidley running from deep on 2 occasions getting on the end of some quality through balls from Harry Collins, the first occasion finalising with a right footed shot missing at the near post, the 2nd putting in a great cross towards the penalty spot with the Snodland defense nowhere to be seen, unfortunately neither were our forward line, our chances continued deep into injury time when a a cross from a free kick 10 yards inside the Snodland half was met by Aye who unfortunately got a little too much on his header when all was needed was it to be glanced and surely that would have secured the points. It just wasn't to be on what was to be a frustrating day for all. On positive notes it was another clean sheet, so no goals conceded in last 2 games, Ross Borg continued to impress at right back. On to the next one, COYBears
