First Team vs Cray Valley

Match Date: 05 March 2019
Score: 0-1

For the second time in four days The Bears' were to come up against FA Vase semi- finalists in the shape of the illustrious and high flying Cray Valley PM.and an interesting and entertaining game it turned out to be. It was obvious from the early stages that we had two sides here that were capable of playing decent attractive football. The Bears' seemed to settle quickest being well organised and

Comfortable in their shape and passing game. The visitors seemed to struggle with the home sides style and as the half wore on the the hosts were making wing runs which weren't taken advantage of in most part due to lack of quality on the final ball.

For all the quality play in the first half neither side were able to create any meaningful chances, although The Bears' had to thank Matt Garner (20 mins) for a brave diving header to avert danger.

The second half got underway with an increased tempo from both sides and again the home side

were shading proceedings, but again lack of quality on the final ball stopped any advantage being gained The visiting 'keeper Andy Walker was the busier but mainly due to saving comfortable long range shots

The game changer was to come on 67 mins when after some good approach play Lea Dawson was able to convert with a scrappy ricochet goal to give the visitors' the lead, you could hear their (Cray Valley) huge sigh of relief, they now wanted to join the party, their cause was helped on 74m

Bears' Matt Garner was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card.

Cray Valley were unable to take advantage of this due to the home side battling to the very end and a couple of excellent saves from home keeper Scott Andrews.

This game was a credit to both sides playing good football, neither resorting to the more direct style some other sides seem to prefer.

The home side deserve huge credit for taking both Vase semi- finalists to the wire.

Well done you Bears'
