First Team vs Corinthian

Match Date: 24 September 2019
Score: 3-3

By Allan Hefferon

After just 3 minutes Corinthian were to go ahead when a defensive mix-up
provided the opportunity for Josh Stirman to pick up the ball to run on and
score past home goalkeeper Scott Andrews. However as the half wore on so
Bearsted were to take control with the pace of their wingmen as being central
to there play and they might well have equalised when Emmanuel Oluwasemo
chased down a ball only for him to be denied by advancing keeper Aiden Prall and for the
rebound to fall to James Bessey-Saldanha to fire over the bar. Saldanha though did not
have to wait long for a goal, when after combining on the right with David D.Baranowski ;
he was able run in and send a cross-shot past a rooted Prall. Further chances then were to
follow, notably when both Lucian Scarlat went close and then when a Sam Flisher goal
bound shot was saved once more by Prall. For the visitors the chances were far and few as
going into the half time break the expectation was that Bearsted could be the ones to go
on and win the game.
After the break so the momentum was to remain the same and after just a minute of play
the home side was to go in front when a delivery over the top set off Oluwasemo to run on
and round Prall to send the ball to roll agonisingly into the net. At the other end in reply it
was Oscar Housego who found himself in a scoring position to see his effort cut out by a
Graeme Andrews interception. As with the first half play was to flow in the host’s direction
and with their opponents having to thank Prall for keeping the score down, notably when
saving point blank saves from Baranowski and Saldanha, However the score was to be
extended further when a John Rogers run into the box took him into a position to find
Lucian Scarlat to set up Oluwasemo, to put the ball over the line from close range. This
strike though was not to be the end as very soon after it was a one handed save from Pall
onto the bar that prevented Baranoski from sealing the game with 20 minutes to go .
Unfortunately for the Bears they were greatly affected by the loss to Injuries along with
Scarlat being virtually being put out of the game after having to suffer an horrendous
challenge by defender Snelling soon after . So now after having to rearrange their set up so
play was to move in the other direction and very soon after Corinthian were to pull back a
goal when following a run down the right by Stirman put him into a position to set up James
Truman to provide a grandstand finish. No disappointment there for the travelling
supporters, when Liam Miller found himself in the right place to find an equaliser in the
90th minute. This game though still held an opportunity for a result, as deep into ‘Time
added on’, when Bearsted mounted an attack down the left which ended with Baronowski
sending in a shot bound for the top corner that was turned over by the hand of Truman
which not only conceded a penalty but also saw him heading for an early bath. Fortunately
for his team though the resultant penalty by Oluwasemo was saved once more by man of
the match Pall.
