First Team vs Erith Town

Match Date: 04 January 2020
Score: 1-0

From the first whistle Bearsted found that the visitors were going to be formidable, Erith started brightly and the Bears three week break seemed to have left them a bit rusty., in fact they couldn’t get a foot on the ball for the first 5 mins. Although when they did get the ball forward after 6 mins a free kick played into the visitors penalty area found Graeme Andrews who played the ball into the path of Jon Rogers who fired the ball into the top right hand corner from 19 yards a great goal to give the Bears a 1 - 0 lead.
This steadied the home side and the half continued with both sides striving to get a foot hold but both sides were guilty of giving the ball away cheaply. It was the home side who should have increased their lead when in the space of 4 mins James Bessey- Saldanha shot just over Nodi Bobomurodov great shot well saved and Manny Oluwasemo headed against the woodwork, what might have been a vastly different score line. Erith did though nearly level when a looping ball into the Bears' penalty area looked like it was sailing over the goal, actually hit the woodwork and safely out of play.
The second half proved to be an equally competitive game with both sides giving their all, but although the visitors created a number of half chances, they lacked the killer touch to score, that combined with some great resolute defending allowed the Bears' to secure the 3 points against very capable opposition.
Final score 1 - 0.
