As the scoreline suggested this game was to be a close encounter throughout and although it might be said that Bearsted were the team with most possession they were not really able to provide too many clear cut chances. Certainly their style of play did create several opportunities at times their crosses were being cut out by a well drilled, tall, back line marshalled throughout by Rob Gillman which made it also very difficult to make inroads into the area on the ground. As for Lordswood although generally on the back foot their opponents had to be mindful of being hit on the break particularly down the right wing and at times did manage to go close.
Following the half time break so the momentum of the game remained much the same as the visitors continuously made efforts to take the game and seeing the performance of Lucian Scarlet being a particular threat now. However by the same token, the hosts did manage to go close enough during this game to notch a late winner.
With both teams locked after 90 minutes so the game went into extra time. However the deadlock was finally broken after 112 minutes when a David Baranowski seized the ball to run to the edge of the area of the thread the ball into the path of Jon Rogers to toe the gall past advancing goalkeeper Rilwan Anibaba into the net. However, as the clock ran down, 3 minutes later, a long ball from defence found Luke Medley in a position to equalise to offer up the prospect of a penalty shoot out. The drama though was not to end this way as seconds before the final whistle Scarlat was able to come in from the right before passing the ball to Nodi Bobomurodov to take his team into the next round.
