First Team vs Lordswood

Match Date: 12 October 2019
Score: 1-2

By Allan Hefferon

In truth this game was never one that Bearsted should have lost as for much of
the both halves they were to dominate the play. However not for the first time
they were to go behind after 2 minutes when Luke Medley was able to latch
onto of a misjudged clearance to send the ball past goalkeeper Scott Andrews.
As the half wore on so the home side was able to settle and did go close on
several occasions notably when a Mikey Dalton shot from the edge of the area
cannoned off of the back of the head of Rob Gillman to fly over to safety and
soon after saw Emmanuel Oluwasemo was put through only for him to send the
ball into the side netting. Although the visitors did well in defending a barrage
of the home side’s chances the momentum whose play was constantly hindered
by protestations to the referee. However one good feature of the afternoon was
the interesting contest between Jordan Samuel and Bear’s wide man Lucian
Scarlat. Play at the other end although limited still threw up some moments
when the score could have been increased. However after 45 minutes David
Baronowski seized upon the opportunity to force a save from goalkeeper Rilwan
Anibaba diving low to his to his left and for him to concede a penalty in the
process of denying the opportunity for Oluwasemo to send the loose ball into
the net and for Scarlat to make no mistake with the spot kick.
Following the break so the game was still in the balance but although Bearsted
moved forward in pursuit of a goal after 58 minutes Lordswood were once more
to go in front when a ball from deep found Medley to set up Felix Ogeah to send
the ball home. Following this set back so the visitors had to defend deep and on
several occasions had to thank their keeper Anibaba for producing a number of
great saves notably when turning away a Nodirbek Bobomurodov free kick sent
goalwards through his defensive wall. Perhaps maybe the biggest
disappointment came when a ball clipped into the area from the left found the
head of Peter Williams to hit the bar and once more seeing his side not quite
getting the result it deserved.
