From the start during this early period Punjab were finding it very difficult to find much rhythm in responding to the swift attacking play of their opponents and were to be punished after just 5 minutes when a free kick from the left was not dealt with sufficiently enough to stop Emmanuel Oluwasemo sending the ball back into the net. This momentum was to continue after this strike and the score was to increase after 18 minutes when a Lucian Scarlat free kick was cleared off of the line by Marvin Okundaiaiye only to find Mateusz Wlodarczyk on hand to fire home from close range. Special mention though, due credit must go to home goalkeeper Max Ovenden for producing producing 3 exceptional saves, most notably one from Scarlat which preventing this game running away from his team. This situation though was not to transpire as the home side gradually began to respond more positively and the introduction of substitute Ryan Jarrett certainly was to be effective and on 2 occasions his pace took him in on goal only for him to shoot into the side netting and then soon after being denied by the advancing Scott Andrews. As the half wore on so play became a much closer affair as chances became to arrive for United and in response saw Oluwasemo hitting the post which signalled that the game was still very much in the balance. This indeed proved to be the case after the re-start and when Steve Ratcliff headed over from close range as well as a series of corners which created certain goalmouth anxiety and only another fine save by Andrews prevented Punjab’s William Johnson-Core from pulling a goal back. With play now becoming end to end Bearsted were to get back into their attacking mode and it was the introduction of James Bessey- Saldanha and Peter Williams that more options began to evolve. So much so that after 81 minutes, Williams was on hand to provide the opening for Saldahna run on to score the ultimate goal and seal the game.
