First Team vs Punjab Utd

Match Date: 19 September 2020
Score: 1-1

Punjab United 1 V Bearsted 1 (After 95 mins) Punjab win 4 -3 on penalties.

The Bears' will be wondering how they are not still in the F.A. Vase
The first 20 mins was very scrappy with both sides battling against a blustery wind and uneven surface. Eventually it was to be the Bears' who settled the quickest and as the half wore on take control and create some decent chances most notably Harrison Hatfull shot tipped round post, Stephen Hafner shot inches wide and Elyon Marshall - Katung bringing another save out of the hard working home keeper Max Ovenden. Half time 0 - 0.

The second half started and the pace went up a notch although still rather scrappy, the Bears' never seemed to be under too much pressure, indeed it was no great surprise when Tom Penfold stepped up to fire home a cracking left foot free kick from 25 yards. 60 m. 0 - 1.This inspired the Bears' to force the home defence into some desperate defending and good goal keeping from the impressive Max Ovenden.
With the clock running down it looked as if the huffing and puffing of the home side wasn't enough to get them the goal they needed.
On 92 mins the game was turned on its head when Johnson - Cole got forward on the Punjab left wing and shanked the ball over and the ball, looking like it was going over the bar dropped at the last second into the net having deceived everyone giving Punjab a rather lucky 1 -1 on full time.
Punjab took full advantage of their good fortune and converted 4 penalties to Bearsted’s 3
With that man Max Ovenden saving two of them.
Bearsted will wonder what they did wrong, in my opinion nothing, just needed that bit of Lady Luck. COYB
