First Team vs Corinthians

Match Date: 29 September 2020
Score: 2-4

Once again the Bears are playing against one of the title favourites (We must have upset the fixture secretary, lol)
Corinthian won the toss and kicked off down the slope, getting the ball forward as early as possible. With the Bears still settling in, a home attack resulted in a penalty being awarded to Corinthian, which was duly converted by Oscar Housego on 8 mins 1 - 0.
AS the game resumed the Bears started to come into the game and making advances forward, creating an interesting contest, although some poor Bears defending allowed Ryan Sawyer to increase the home sides lead somewhat against the run of play 18 mins. 2 - 0.
Undeterred the Bears pushed on and a number of great chances Andy Irvine hit the post and and had a great shot well saved by the home keeper, Jon Rogers also fired in a great angled shot which shaved the upright. The Bears started to look a threat and would be disappointed to be 2 - 0 down at half time.
The Bears started the second half brightly and making inroads into the home sides penalty area, asking questions of the defence. The visitors got their rewards when they were awarded a free kick 25 yards out and Tom Penfold stepped up to fire home (Andy Irvine might have brushed it with his leg on the way in) 51 mins 2 - 1.
The Bears were probably thinking here we go.
Sadly that didn't quite happen, with a referee that, every time he awarded a free kick, and there were plenty of them, decided to explain in at long length why he had awarded them. The home side, well known for their expertise in time and game management did what they do best. Sadly the Bears, when given the time, pushed on and and tried to keep the game alive. In doing this and throwing bodies forward they conceded another goal on 65 mins Louie Clarke 65 mins 3 -1. The visitors were now going for it and Andy Irvine, Stephen Hafner, Jordan Ababio along with Lucien Scarlett forcing home keeper Aiden Prall to produce a man of the match show to keep his side in the game.
In the dying minutes Corinthian increased their lead Emmanuel Oloyede 89 mins 4 - 1.
The Bears scored a late goal on 90 mins Lekan Mayjoegbe 90 mins 4 - 2.
Great effort again boys, very unlucky not to have converted our chances. It just shows there is more than one way to play football.
