First Team vs Glebe

Match Date: 17 October 2020
Score: 2-5

For the first ten minutes of this game there was nothing to indicate what was to come.
Sadly for the home side, some sloppy defending allowed a left wing Glebe attack to create a chance for Jamie Phipot who easily slot home to give the visitors the lead 0 - 1.10 mins.
This seemed to inspire Glebe and Phipot in particular, who 7 minutes later, from 15 yards fired in a speculative right foot shot which found its way in from a deflection. 0 - 2. 17 mins.
The Bears' were now looking very vulnerable and sadly, 2 minutes later conceded a penalty which was fired home by Phipot 0 - 3. 19 mins.
Once again the Bears' had given themselves a mountain to climb, without needing to be great, Glebe finished the half looking comfortable.
Half - time 0 - 3.
The second period got underway with the home side straight on the attack and forcing the visitors into some serious defending. The Bears' were now the dominant force, playing quicker, passing football. It was no surprise when, after a number of attacks and corners,
Lekan Mayjoyegbe rose to head home a corner, his third in 3 games, 1 - 3. 52 mins.
The Bears' were now very much controlling the game and increased their scoring 4 minutes later when Joel Wakefield headed home to make it 2 - 3. 56 mins.
Were we going to see the impossible when on 63 minutes Stephen Hafner fired a wonderful 25 yard strike towards goal sadly it smashed against the bar and away to safety, along with the Bears' dreams.
With the home side throwing everything forward it was almost inevitable that Glebe would pick us off with two further goals scored by the much travelled Frankie Sawyer. 72, 90 mins.
FT 2 - 5.
A very frustrating afternoon for all concerned, showing how wanting we were in the first half, and how excellent we were in the second. The brutal truth is we can't keep giving teams an advantage before we get going.
As the saying goes we win together we lose together. I have no doubts that Kevin and his group of players will come through this and onto better things.
