First Team vs Balham

Match Date: 31 October 2020
Score: 2-5

A disappointing day for the Bears here against new boys Balham. The home side settled much the quicker, with the Bears' appearing a bit hesitant. Balham took advantage of this and after 8 mins, Jake Henry took his chance to put the home side 1 - 0 in front. With the Bears' struggling to get into the game, Balham were gaining in confidence and knocking the ball around causing problems for the Bears', This nearly changed though, when Luke Burden on 12mins. almost equalised for the Bears' when he thumped a great 25 yard shot against the Balham cross bar, Burden actually hit the wood work three more time before the break (How's your luck)
The Bears' though were not at the races and their troubles worsened when on 27 mins they lost Stephen Hafner who was red carded, reducing the Bears' to 10 men.
5 mins later Balham went further ahead when Tom Read fired home to give Balham a 2 - 0 lead 33 mins.
Strangely enough the Bears' did now muster a period of response including Burdens 3 efforts against the frame of the goal, and on 42 mins Ryan Croucher fired a great right foot 22 yard shot into the top left hand corner of Balham’s goal to make the score 2 - 1.
Unfortunately the Bears' couldn't take this in to the half time break, allowing the home side to attack yet again and score a third goal when Tom Read scored his second with an absolute pile driver in to the top left hand corner of the Bearsted net 44 mins.
HT 3 - 1.
The second half got underway with the Bears' getting their foot on the ball and keeping more possession thus allowing them to create more forward play. It was after one of these attacks
Jon Rogers fired in a shot which was spilled by the home keeper allowing Rogers to fire home for the Bears' second goal 53 min 3 - 2.
Once again this didn't last, on 58 mins James Murphy scored a poorly defended 4th goal after a blatant off side was ignored by the officials’ 4 - 2.
There wasn't much to report from the last half an hour of action apart from another offside goal converted by Cam Gordon killing the game off. 64 mins 5 - 2
FT 5 - 2.
A poor day for the Bears', even allowing for the woodwork and questionable officiating decisions, we ran out second best. Onwards and upwards.
