First Team vs Canterbury City

Match Date: 04 September 2021
Score: 1-2

The Bears' search for points here were thwarted by the hosts, the match got underway with City looking the brighter of the two sides, but as the game wore on the Bears' were beginning to have a share of the spoils although every time things looked bright for the visitors they were stopped in their tracks by a series of constant niggly fouls, this coupled with a very poor pitch deemed that this was never going to be a great game. The first half was played out in a very boring 45 mins.

Half time 0-0.

Pressure was increased on the Bears' when on 47 mins. Harris Rodgers took advantage of a
Bears' defensive mix-up and prodded home from close range to give City a 1-0 lead.
As usual the visitors weren't fazed by this and kept battling away in a scrappy stop start second half.
With very few chances at either end the Bears' though were to equalise when Giorgio Russo
Powered in a fine header from 12 yards. 85 mins. 1-1. from the restart the visitors went straight after the winner, sadly City managed to launch a long ball out to their left where Samuel Lawford managed to run on and beat Tom Barnes and score the winner for Canterbury. 86 mins

Full time 2-1.

It's easy to see why City play this way on that pitch but we all know you have to play all kinds of teams on all kinds of pitches.
Hopefully with our injury crisis receding we can get a settled side and start moving forwards.
