Dinner Dance and Presentation 2017

Our annual Dinner and Dance and Presentation evening took place at the Bearsted Golf Club on Saturday 13th May. This event turned out to be a very enjoyable one attended by a cross section of the Club’s sides from our Development squad right up to the senior team. During his speech our chairman ,Duncan Andrews, paid tribute to the performance of our first team, backed by the excellent efforts of manager Kevin Stevens and his coaching set up of Mike Ward, Andy Gardener and Steve Bailey for this season. He also gave credit to the players who, after gaining promotion to the Premier League, had at times found it difficult to adjust to the step up in standard, but had drawn strength from the bond that had forged over the past few seasons, and which had pulled them through and ultimately allowed them to finish a respectable 12th place and notably achieving the double over eventual league winners Ashford Town. However, it was not all about the seniors as he also made reference to the achievements that had been made in the development and upgrading of our ground at Otham and the intention to continue with this in order of maximising its’ usage for as many junior teams as is practically possible, whilst enhancing its’ ambition of us continually being an inclusive club. This indeed though had blossomed over the past couple seasons both on and off the field, so much so that this particular evening was a prime example of how things have come along and also not forgetting a very successful football tournament last June that was the collective product of like-minded members. However equally importantly it was hoped that this positivity will send out a message to all other clubs as to how well we are run and how this might encourage players at all levels to want to join us.
Following an excellent three course meal came the presentations themselves, stating with special mementoes and flowers being given as a thanks to a variety of people who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes with special acknowledgement being given to Lesley and Kevin Stevens for all their commitment to providing excellent food and the running of our club house. After this saw the presentation of the most coveted Club award, ‘The Dick Filmer’ trophy, for outstanding commitment throughout this season. This year the trophy was given to very popular winner Jason Dunk, local former player who had subsequently developed his junior team to its’ current U/11s status. This award was immediately followed by the ‘White Horse Trophy’ to Jamie Houston for his special contribution to the Club. On the playing side, ‘Players Player of the Year’ was given to Sam Flisher and to complete the awards, came the Player of the Year award nominated by Manager Kevin Stevens, to Graeme Andrews.
With all the pleasantries and awards now out of the way so saw the migration to the bar and dance floor, where our ‘Music Man’ Steve Bailey was to able to provide his special style of entertainment which eventually concluded a great evening.
However, most importantly, a special thanks must go to Jo and Dalbir Dayal so brilliantly organising the whole event over the past months and on the evening itself.
Many thanks once more to you both.
